Dr. TianYi Li

DMA, The Juilliard School

Dr. TianYi Li is an award-winning pianist and pedagogue whose work spans the United States, Europe, and China. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano from the Juilliard School in 2025 with a dissertation examining historical solo piano transcriptions of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. He also holds a Master of Music in Piano from Juilliard and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from New York University, graduating with honors in 2018 as a Founder’s Day Scholar.

An active and versatile artist, Dr. Li maintains a distinguished career as a soloist and chamber musician. He has appeared in recitals internationally, with recent highlights including a performance of the complete Rachmaninoff Études-Tableaux at the 2023 Shanghai International Piano Festival and Institute, an acclaimed appearance at the Oracle Piano Society in Arizona, concerts at the Boston Carriage House, and the launch of an ambitious concert series in Sarasota, Florida featuring the complete Beethoven symphonies transcribed for violin and piano. His chamber collaborations include performances with the New Juilliard Ensemble and AXIOM at Alice Tully Hall, Peter Jay Sharp Theater, and the Metropolitan Opera Club.
He is a resident artist of the Bermuda Piano Festival and the Suncoast Composer Fellowship Program, as well as a three-time piano fellow at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.

Dr. Li is a prizewinner in numerous international competitions. His honors include First Prize at the 14th Annual New York Music Competition, Third Prize at the 2017 Tbilisi International Piano Competition with special prizes for Best Semifinal Recital, Romantic Work, and Scarlatti Sonata, Sixth Prize at the 2024 Xiamen International Piano Competition, and top placements at the Chopin Piano Competition of the Kosciuszko Foundation, Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and Maria Canals International Music Competition. He is also a National YoungArts Foundation Winner in 2014 and 2015.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Li is a Sight-Reading and Secondary Piano faculty at Juilliard and teaches at the New School for Music Study in Kingston, New Jersey. He also maintains a selective piano studio, with students under his tutelage receiving offers from top conservatories in China, Poland, and the United States.
